Just remembering that day and thinking about Hunter Cross caused his skin to grow cold and the hair on the back of his neck to stand with what could’ve been.

He wasn’t completely safe until he said his “thank you” and “good night” to Cody and stepped into the safety of the cab of his truck, the only thing that was truly his. He had to get his thoughts under control and remember why he’d left Virginia and his family in the first place, which was to take control of his life. Every part of it. And now, that also included his relationship with Cody.
